Examples of Past Activity

Permanent association was founded in 1990 by members of an ad hoc group that was formed when there was neighborhood opposition to a proposal to build approximately 500 apartments on what is now the East Land Park Village site of 90 homes. Over the years, we:

  • Presented the City with the results of a neighborhood survey showing major opposition to a fast food restaurant on the northwest corner of South Land Park Drive and Florin Road, and more recently worked with the city in attempting to ensure a neighborhood- and traffic-friendly business development at the same site
  • Presented the City and County with the results of a neighborhood survey regarding the possible closure of Executive Airport (as part of the Mather Reuse Study in the 1990s), and more recently stayed abreast of a proposal by the City to close Executive and develop the land
  • Were founding members of the Freeport Boulevard Improvement Committee (comprised of members from neighborhood associations and businesses along the boulevard and the City and County) which created a boulevard Master Plan adopted by the City Council, and was a driving force behind median landscape improvements along the boulevard
  • Represented the neighborhood on selection of contractors for renovation of Freeport Square into the Sacramento Public Safety Administration Center and the Executive Airport parking lot, and provided input as the South Hills Center was renovated
  • Facilitated public meetings which led to quieting of problems from a nightclub in the South Hills Shopping Center
  • Worked with CalTrans to ensure completion of a project to mitigate Interstate 5 noise problems north of Florin Road
  • Worked with City Councilman Jimmie Yee and City Public Works on a plan to irrigate and plant street-side areas above drainage canals on 13th Street and on South Land Park Ddrive at 14th Street
  • Facilitated meetings and provided the City with neighborhood concerns and desired amenities for a new park at the south end of Park Village Street - Jensen Park
  • Worked with the City to limit the height and breadth of a proposed cell tower at 35th Avenue and South Land Park Drive
  • Successfully opposed the State Parks plan to run tourist trains in South Land Park.
  • Assisted the City in its successful grant application for the Del Rio Trail.
